Shaping Up For Summer: 9 Months, No Sugar

by Megan
shaping up for summer

This past Monday marked 9 months since I gave up sugar for a year. Only 3 months to go!

I have to say that I’m not as excited as I thought I would be for the end of the year of no sugar. I don’t know if I’ve lost my taste for it or what, but turns out you can actually live without it!

I mean I do miss it sometimes, but not usually out of the blue. If I’m at a party or a restaurant or something where everyone is eating dessert, I wish I could too, but with 9 months behind me, it’s not hard to say no.

The big question is what I’m going to do after this is over. I’ll definitely be eating some of the things I’ve missed (chocolate cake, chocolate juniors…chocolate), but I know that I can live on a LOT less sugar.

I’m very interested in how I’ll feel about Coke. Before starting this, I was easily drinking 4-5 cans of regular Coke a day, and now I drink 1-3 cans of Coke Zero a day. I want to do a taste test to see which I prefer. Hopefully I have just been totally converted to Coke Zero. I know it’s not healthy, but it is zero calories, versus 140 calories per can for regular Coke.

Since I cut out sugar, 9 months ago, I have lost 39 pounds. Keep in mind I was still losing baby weight at that point, but I’m now well below the weight at which I got pregnant, and still losing.

And 9 Months, No Sugar:

9-months-no-sugar

Weigh-in: 163.4, my lowest weight in 5 years!!!

2 years ago I was in between babies and training for a half marathon, and I got down to 163.8. That was the lowest I got before eventually getting pregnant with Harrison. Now I’m finally back down past that point, with no pregnancy/baby plans for at least another full year, and ready to work hard and lose more!

My next major goal is getting into the 150s, which is only 3.5 pounds away! Excited for each little milestone that gets me closer and closer to where I want to be.

Do you want to give up sugar? I promise it’s worth it, for whatever period of time you decide to do it. Here are some tips for cutting out sugar.
