Mr. Mom

by Megan

Last month I wrote about how Daniel and I are switching places for the summer. I’m working not-quite-full-time, and he is home with the kids. I made sure he realized that his job included at least some of the household duties, and he was still stoked for the change.

Well.

On the first full day that I was away working, he did laundry, dishes, took the kids grocery shopping, and cleaned up the living room. Next thing I knew, he had posted a list of upcoming meals on the fridge. But that’s not all…

On the second day, he did more laundry, more dishes, more cleaning, and he made ravioli.

Homemade ravioli.

From scratch.

For realz.

He and Carter spent all morning making this for me (and the rest of the family), for lunch!

And it was AMAZING!

He boiled one batch and baked another batch, but both versions were very tasty. He actually preferred the boiled version, while I liked them baked.

I have Friday-Sunday off, but even on those days he continued to take over the bulk of the housework (including fixing a scary slow leak that could have ruined everything in our bedroom if we hadn’t noticed it).

He keeps saying he would switch for good, and I’m sure he would, but I do want to be home with my babies! At the same time, while he is loving the vacation from school and spending time with our kids every day, I am loving working more and being away from home for a change. If we were able to do this every summer, it would be perfect.

Thanks Daniel, for being a great husband and Dad! No go make some more ravioli, Mama’s hungry!

Mr. Mom’s Ravioli:
(I hope you like guess-and-check, cause he’s a guess-and-check kinda guy!)

Ingredients:
flour
2-3 eggs
water
ground beef
marinara sauce
milk
any spices you feel like throwing in

Instructions:

  1. First, make the dough: mix about 2.5 cups of flour with 3 eggs
  2. Add water a teaspoon at a time, until you have a workable dough (not too sticky, not too dry)
  3. Let the dough sit for an hour
  4. Then mix the filling: Mix marinara sauce, ground beef, and your spices in a skillet pan, adding in about 1/3 a cup of milk and a couple of teaspoons of flour, let simmer until thick and not runny
  5. Roll out the dough and cut into strips
  6. Spoon the filling onto the strips, and fold strips in half lengthwise
  7. Cut along each strip, making the ravioli squares
  8. Use a fork to crimp the edges of the squares and seal in the filling
  9. Add ravioli to boiling water and let boil for 10-12 minutes OR
  10. Bake ravioli in an oven preheated at 375 for 15 minutes
  11. Add some extra filling on top and some Parmesan cheese
  12. EAT!

This is great. My boyfriend would NEVER do this stuff…I work full time and take care of the house full time. YOu’re a very lucky woman!
