You Can Do Anything For 10 Seconds #StreamTeam

by Megan

As part of Netflix’s StreamTeam, I got the opportunity to prescreen the new show Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. I settled down one afternoon to watch just the first episode, and…well… four or five episodes later I made myself turn it off and get up for awhile!

If you’re like me, Thursday night used to be an incredible night of television: The Office, Parks and Recreation, Community, and 30 Rock, one right after the other! Then one by one those shows ended. #sadface If you’re still feeling like something is missing in your life, you might want to give Kimmy a chance!

I loved Ellie Kemper when she joined The Office, and she is just as fun to watch on Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. The show centers around Kimmy, who reenters the world after spending years underground as part of a doomsday cult, and the friends she meets when she decides to make her way in NYC.

In one episode, Kimmy teaches her philosophy that “you can do anything for 10 seconds.” They make a joke of it, showing her underground, turning a crank and counting to 10 over and over again. But there’s some truth in her philosophy. What if I stopped and counted to ten every time I was about to scarf down some junk food, or react angrily to something? If I withstood the temptation for just 10 seconds, would there be a different outcome? I guess I should start trying it and find out!

If you miss the fast-paced, irreverent yet smart humor of 30 Rock, you’ll be happy to know that Kimmy is produced by the same team.

One thing I’ve learned by watching sitcoms is that they usually take a season to find their footing. Kimmy has a great start; the first season is funny and left me wanting to know what would happen to the characters. But I’ll definitely be watching to see how the show grows in future seasons.

As always, our whole family has enjoyed streaming Netflix all month long. Harrison is still stuck on Elmo, Carter has started rewatching Johnny Test (a show he watched regularly when he was younger), and I finally finished Parenthood! #tears

What’s next on our stream list? WELL, I’m glad you asked. A few months back I raved about Derek, and on April 3rd, the show is releasing a special episode! It’s only on Netflix- don’t miss it!

What are you streaming this month?
