Why I’m swapping breakfast for a bedtime snack

About eight months ago I made the big decision to get gastric sleeve surgery, which has helped me to lose 70 pounds. It was the best choice I could have made for my health, and I’m grateful every day that I took that leap.

For the first few months after surgery, my food choices and volume were extremely limited. But now that I’m able to eat a little more and a wider variety of foods, I’m realizing how vigilant I need to be about my choices! I have a little more to lose, and I definitely don’t want to regain any of the weight that I’ve lost.

So I was excited for the opportunity to read Joel Marion’s new book (get ready for this title, it’s a long one), Always Eat After 7 PM: The Revolutionary Rule-Breaking Diet That Lets You Enjoy Huge Dinners, Desserts, and Indulgent Snacks—While Burning Fat Overnight.

I was intrigued by the title. We’ve been traditionally taught to avoid carbs, have an early dinner, and never eat before bed. But the fact is, the latest scientific research shows us this earlier model is not the most ideal.

I’m sure you’ve heard the buzz about intermittent fasting, which is totally opposite of what we’ve always been told — to eat a big breakfast and a small dinner. That’s never worked for me because I have no appetite in the morning. So I was excited to read all the science behind why you CAN skip breakfast and eat your meals later in the day.

Based on surprising science, Always Eat After 7 PM debunks popular diet myths and offers an easy-to-follow diet that accelerates fat-burning and allows you to indulge in your most intense food cravings: Eating the majority of your calories at night.

Always Eat After 7 PM is a three-phase program that teaches you how to lose big by strategically eating big when you are naturally hungriest—in the evening. This may sound too good to be true, but let me assure you it is no gimmick. It’s all about making strategic and smart food swaps, and you can still eat your favorite foods.

Over the next month, I’ll be sharing some of the concepts from Joel’s book and sharing how I’m applying them in my own life! My goal for trying out this three-phase plan is to boost my metabolism and continue to lose weight until I reach my ultimate goal.

Here’s some more from the author about why he wrote this book:
