“Where have all the pencils gone?!”
That was a common cry last year, when Carter was in Kindergarten. Every night it seemed we were searching for a single pencil (and binkies, always binkies, but that’s another story), so that he could do his homework. This year I decided we would be a little better organized when it came to homework time, and we got ourselves ready with a little help from Walgreens and their new paperless coupons, available in their mobile app.
Carter’s school gave us a list of the school supplies he would need to provide, and on the meet-the-teacher night, we dropped off a big box! But we also needed some new supplies to have at home for homework and projects, (you never know when you’ll need to “glue stick” something!), so I took Carter and Vanessa to Walgreens to stock up a bit.
Vanessa and I have started doing some preschool activities in the mornings after dropping big brother off at school, so she needed to have supplies on hand as well. The sales were in full swing, just look at all those yellow tags!
Luckily I had downloaded the Walgreens mobile app, and I was already a Balance Rewards member, so I opened up the app, scanned my rewards card to sync my account to the app, and then browsed the list of coupons for the items I wanted to buy. When I saw a coupon I liked, I “clipped” it directly to my card!
Seriously so easy to use. MUCH preferable to the cramp I get in my hand from cutting out a billion coupons with scissors.
After “clipping,” we hit the school supply shelves!
At checkout when you scan your Balance Rewards card (or enter your phone number), the coupons you clipped are automatically applied and then deleted from your clipped list (each one can only be used once). It’s that simple!
After checking out with our school supplies, our savings (thanks to the paperless coupons), and…okay…some donuts, we headed back home!
We got out this organizer we bought and had fun filling it up with all of our new and old supplies. The great thing about this organizer is that it is on wheels! It will live in the kids’ closet, but at homework time, it can easily be wheeled out to the kitchen table where homework is done.
We are going to be more organized this year. There will be no more cries for a pencil! There better not be- I bought 50 of them!
And just like that, my little guy is all of a sudden a big 1st grader!
This year is a step up from Kindergarten, especially since Carter is in the accelerated 1st grade class. He’s already been hard at work on his math facts and reading comprehension. He loves school, and we love that he loves school!
Vanessa, meanwhile, is learning to write her letters. She gets so excited when she writes a “V” and an “A” to start her name! Then she usually just starts drawing people, but those are incredibly cute as well!
Whatever you may be in the market for at this time of year, whether it’s school supplies, cleaning supplies, food, cosmetics, etc., Walgreens probably has a paperless coupon for it! Just join their Balance Rewards program, download the mobile app, and start saving today!
There are other exciting benefits to being a Balance Rewards member, which I’m going to write about next week, so look for that! And whether you’re headed back to school, work, or play, have a great week!
