Introducing Layla & Vegetable Stamps

by Megan

I don’t think it’s any secret that I’m not a crafter or a cooker! I love good food, and I enjoy a good paint-by-numbers, but that’s the extent of my involvement with these two skill areas.

Over Memorial Day, while spending time with Daniel’s family, I was chatting with my sister-in-law and good friend, Layla. She is an absolute star in the kitchen, and she’s always doing fun crafts. She expressed interest in sharing her recipes and projects with others, but wasn’t really interested in starting a blog and having to do all the behind-the-scenes technical work. In addition, she recently left her teaching job to be a full-time stay-at-home mom to her three kiddos and was looking for a way to earn some extra money.

A lightbulb turned on in my head. I already have an established blog, love doing the behind-the-scenes work, and really want to feature more recipes and crafts. Thus was a partnership born.

Oh that’s just us…7 years ago…in Boston…on a donkey…which is not real.

I mean it’s truly the perfect combination. I have the blog and the technical skills, and the two areas where I’m lacking just happen to be the two things that Layla does best. She has the skills and desire to create delicious recipes and beautiful crafts, and wants to share them without having to run her own blog.

Ahhhhhhhh! (That’s angels singing. Please read it again with the appropriate intonation. That’s better.)

So things around here are about to get just a bit tastier and a whole lot craftier. We have posts coming up about how to make your own jewelry organizer (it’s serious business, and it’s awesome), and Layla’s used to be secret lasagna recipe (I’ve had it, and seconds, and thirds…).

Today I’m going to give you a mini craft tutorial, to give you an idea of something you might see from Layla over the next several weeks. During that same family get-together, she gathered all the sisters together, and she showed us how to make cards with homemade stamps. By “homemade” I mean from the bottoms of vegetable stalks! Check it out!

Layla also brought her laminator and some scrapbook paper, and I made a dry-erase to do list, and a beachy magnet for my mom!

She also did crafts with the kids that day, and then patiently painted each of their faces!
