Two Weeks Later

by Megan

It’s been two weeks since I had le bebe.

Exhibit A

It’s been a busy couple of weeks. It would have been busy without anything extra, but we had to go back to the hospital, several doctors appointments and several more to go, and, oh yeah, WE MOVED! We spent most of today cleaning our old house and will hopefully finish up tomorrow. In the meantime, I have hardly put anything away at the new house, just because I’ve had no time!

See? I just had to put writing this post on hold to go feed the baby! And that is why I haven’t gotten up any posts lately, though I have plenty composed in my head.

Let’s talk “postpartum.” I don’t have PPD or anything like that, but wow, this is a messed up time. There are so many emotions that come with having a baby, and I think I’ve probably had all of them…in the last five minutes.

I’m tired, sore, and busy, and I have two other kids that need care and attention.

I’m elated, sad, nervous, and excited.

I’ve lost 23 pounds in these two weeks, and still none of my clothes fit.

Carter starts Kindergarten in three weeks, and I think he’s ready, but I’m afraid I haven’t done enough to prepare him for school. I feel like he should go in already reading, and he’s close but not there yet. He is going to be the youngest though, so maybe I shouldn’t worry too much about it.

I’ve overworked myself moving and cleaning and organizing, and the “wait six weeks to do anything” doctors would be horrified.

Harrison is only awake a few hours a day, so I want to give him my undivided attention during those times, and make sure that he’s getting enough stimulation that he won’t grow up to be a serial killer.

Oh yeah, I have a daughter too. Have to make sure that Vanessa is getting some “mom time.”

We are sticking to a hardcore budget this summer which means we get down to our last dollar each week.

I need to BLOG! Hello, birth story? July goals? Anyone? Bueller?

Turn on utilities here. Find out the “moving out” process for our old house. Change our address. Find a place for everything to go. Take items to Goodwill. Keep myself from issuing a “no toys” law a la the Burger Meister Meister Burger. A really frustrating garage door that needs 3-5 tries before closing. Several repair issues with the new house that need to be reported and taken care of. Meals. Work- even though I’m on maternity leave, I need to keep up with a few things while I’m “away.” Need to prepare choreography for show choir camp.

Most of all, though, I have this incredibly perfect and precious creature in my arms, almost 24/7, and I love him with all of my heart and soul.

There are no words to describe the feelings of a new mom toward her baby, whether it’s her first, second, third, or more! I just want to hold him and kiss his face all day long. He has deliciously soft skin, with a forehead that wrinkles when he stretches, pretty blue eyes, and just enough fuzz on his head to call “hair.” He has these skinny little chicken legs and chubby little cheeks. He rests his head on my shoulder and falls asleep when I’m trying to burp him, and I’m so happy he’s mine.

And that’s my 11pm, crazy-postpartum-lady rant for you. Better reads coming soon: birth story, giveaway, goals, new house decorating, and my plan to “shape up” after baby (a.k.a. a plea for advice).

I hope you all have a lovely weekend. Here’s to getting some sleep!

He is absolutely precious. I often wonder how moms adjust to a new baby when they have older kiddos. It makes me nervous. I think you are handling it well! I moved when V was 10 weeks old so I can’t imagine moving with a brand new baby!

He’s soooo sweet! My little guy is 5 months old now and I already miss him as a newborn but am enjoying new stages and growth. I can’t imagine having to move just after having a baby, crazy!!
