Find your dream customers with Traffic Secrets

by Megan

This post is sponsored by “Traffic Secrets”. The opinions expressed below are my own. I received free products in exchange for sharing my experience.

I launched a brand-new product last week. My first big product, actually. It’s a course that teaches regular families how to take their lives on the road and travel full-time. I was over the moon when someone purchased the course on the first day I started promoting it!

Then…nothing.

Luckily, I just happened to be releasing this course right in the middle of reading Russell Brunson’s latest book, Traffic Secrets: The Underground Playbook for Filling Your Websites and Funnels with Your Dream Customers.

Trilogy Secrets books

Traffic Secrets is the third book in a trilogy of books by Russell Brunson, CEO of ClickFunnels, the fastest-growing non-venture-backed software company in the world. In the book, Russell reveals the marketing techniques he’s taught to over a million entrepreneurs about how to get noticed, drive traffic, and make sales.

How to find and attract your dream customers

There are several concepts introduced in Traffic Secrets that are so simple, yet eye-opening. And the ones I was already familiar with are presented in a refreshing way, using stories and real-life examples.

Russell brings to life what should be a very dry, boring topic. It was truly a joy to read, no devour, this book.

I’m still working my way through the lessons, but here are some of the top takeaways for me, so far:

Creating a great product is just the first half of the equation

[Entrepreneurs] happily invest in coaching, product creation, design, education — almost everything — but when you then tell them to buy ads on Facebook or Google, they freeze.

Called out! I’m the kind of entrepreneur he’s referring to. I’ve invested in coaching, education, and design, but I definitely hesitate when it comes time to promote my site or my products.

I knew it would be hard work to sell a course. As much as I knew my course was awesome, I knew I couldn’t just make it available and wait for the hordes of people to throw their money at me.

But that one sale kind of got my hopes up.

Not to worry! Traffic Secrets is teaching me all the strategies I need to implement to have a truly successful course launch, and I plan to follow it to the letter!

Make a “Dream 100” list

Ah ha! THIS I was already on top of! I already had plans to create a Dream 100 list — a list of all the people who I could reach out to, network with, and hopefully partner with to help get my product in front of a bigger audience.

Russell says that when people hire him as a consultant, this is the first thing he tells them to do — research and list the people who serve your dream customer and then reach out to them.

Most entrepreneurs don’t struggle to create an amazing product or service — they struggle to get it in front of people who want it. That is what Russell teaches in his book: the art and science of getting consumers to find you.

Become obsessed with your dream customer

The concept of an avatar is not new to me. Everybody teaches this. But this quote gave me pause:

The first step in the process is to become obsessed with your dream customer. Companies that become obsessed with their products will eventually fail.

I’m guilty of being obsessed with my product when, in reality, how much I love it doesn’t matter. What matters is getting other people to know about it and love it.

I can’t wait to dive even deeper into Traffic Secrets and the exercises in the book. As you can see, it’s become my new beach read! Next step, finishing my Dream 100 list. After that, selling lots of courses!
