Stay healthy while traveling during cold and flu season with these helpful tips and products, and put together your own “Healthy On-The-Road” kit so you don’t miss a minute of the fun!

When I was growing up, fall meant gorgeous leaves. Driving down the highway was like being inside a work of art.

Then I moved to Arizona…

Spoiler alert: No pretty leaves in Arizona!

But this year is going to be different. After 13 years in the desert, we’ve decided to take a “family gap year” and explore the country! And guess what. This fall we are in the Pacific Northwest, and I’m seeing some pretty leaves!

Other than the attractive foliage, fall also means the approach of cold and flu season. Every year I think I might escape getting sick, but I haven’t been that lucky yet! This year we need to be extra prepared since we are out on the road.

So today I wanted to share some tips on how to stay healthy while traveling and how to put together a useful “Healthy On-The-Road” kit.

No matter what form of transportation!

Stay Healthy While Traveling

Whether you are traveling near or far, it’s so helpful to be prepared and have everything you might need at the ready! Follow these quick steps, and you’ll be ready for whatever this cold and flu season has to throw at you! I also have some products to recommend that you might not know about, so be sure to check those out! Okay here we go:

1. Pack smart

Choose one bag or box to be your “stay healthy” kit. Use that for all of your medicines, first-aid basics, and other stay-healthy treatments. If you’re using a bag, be sure to get one that zips up, so nothing falls out!

2. Color-Code

If you have a big family like ours, and especially if you have a lot of prescription meds, you may want to use a color coding system so you can see at a glance what belongs to whom! Some pharmacies sell colored bands for pill containers, but I like to use washi tape!

3. Stock Up

You’ll want to be sure you always have the basics on hand: pain relievers, headache medication, antihistamine, heartburn relief, and anything else you find you use regularly.

You also might take a spin down the pharmacy aisles and see what is new. I just tried out the new Theraflu Power Pods Daytime Severe Cold, and they are so convenient.

They can be used with most single-serve coffee makers and help treat symptoms due to a cold such as nasal and sinus congestion, cough, minor sore throat pain, and they can also temporarily reduce a fever. The Power Pods provide powerful relief without a prescription.

When you’re traveling and feeling under-the-weather, the Power Pods would be a perfect start to your day, helping to treat your symptoms so that you can enjoy a day of adventure!

4. Refill

If you take any prescription medications, be sure to check how much you have on hand and how many refills are available. You may need to schedule a visit with your doctor before traveling or refill your prescription before leaving town. You don’t want to be caught without your necessary meds, and it can be difficult to get what you need when you’re away from home.

5. Keep Germs to Yourself

Or maybe more appropriately, help your kids keep their germs to themselves! With a family of six, it seems like once one of us gets sick, we just start to pass it back and forth. It’s so hard to get well!

One way to prevent spreading germs is to use wipes! Kleenex® Germ Removal Wet Wipes safely wipe away 99% of germs from skin, with no harsh chemicals, and a pack is perfect for tossing in your kit. We bought extras to stash in other places, too! With Kleenex you’ll always get dependable care and ultimate softness.

Wipe. All. The Things!

6. Get Rest

I know, it’s no fun to miss out on anything! But if you’re sick, it’s best to get the rest you need. If you’re not feeling well, you’re not going to enjoy the fun anyway! Better to rest up and join in on the fun once you are feeling better.

Another product we grabbed for our kit was the Bedtime Bliss tea from Lipton. After a full day of activities, wind down with a warm cup of Bedtime Bliss, an herbal infusion that sings you to sleep, like a lullaby in a cup.*

The Lipton Wellness range, made with carefully selected botanicals and blended with essential oils, helps make wellbeing a part of your everyday routine.

When putting together our kit, we stopped by Kroger to get everything we needed. You can’t beat their prices, and you’ll find everything you need to stay healthy on the road!

Another cool thing is that Kroger can be found all over the country, just with different store names. We shopped at Fry’s while living in Arizona, and while spending the past month in Washington, we shopped at Fred Meyer. There might be a Kroger-brand store near you, and you might not even know it!

So whether you’re traveling the country in search of picturesque foliage, or just headed to Grandma’s house for the holidays, be sure to put together a kit and a plan, to keep you and your family healthy and having fun!
