Snow Day!!!…?

by Megan

So Tuesday was a snow day here in St. David… I had to laugh when Daniel got the early morning call that school was canceled, because I already knew what it was going to look like outside.

Sure enough, the ground was just awash with the dangerous fluffy white stuff…

Here is Carter’s first touch of snow:

Apparently the bus drivers were scared to be driving on the treacherous roads:

Now let’s compare to a Maine snow day…

Now, ignoring the random fact that my brother is sitting outside on a stool in the snow, I’m pretty sure this wasn’t even a snow day- just remnants of other snow days that year. We would not have had a snow day in Maine unless there was at least this much snow on the ground AND it was still coming down in full force. There would have to be several bus accidents and the abominable snowman would have to make an appearance before they would close the schools. And even if all that happened, Kennebunk would probably still have school.

This is a snowman Daniel made on the hood of our old car:

This is a snowman Daniel and I made in Maine…while on Spring Break:

It has snowed here one other time since I’ve been in Arizona, about the same amount (not even an inch). On that morning, instead of the usual 1 hour drive into Tucson, it took me THREE HOURS, because apparently there had been a big accident on the highway. In an inch of snow. Not even an inch; the roads were clear! If only these Arizona people had any idea of the blizzards I’ve driven through…

But I shouldn’t complain about a snow day. We had fun. Especially around 10am and onward, once the snow had all melted and the sun was out.

The picture of Christopher sitting outside (which I’m sure you don’t think is at all strange because you know your brother)was probably taken in May. It looks like a spring day in Maine, not a winter day. That’s just a dusting of snow!!

Arizona and snow day- hahahahahaha!

Hey, you have to take what you can get when you live in Arizona. We couldn’t really get away with a “too hot” day. Cut us some slack or we’ll ship you back to Maine! tee hee…

My question is, do you really want all the desert drivers-who do not know how to deal with their cars in a skid-out on the roads? I didn’t think so. Let us stay home and eat the fluffy stuff until it melts at 8:35 am.

We did have a rain day in Sierra Vista once. Not really any flooding in town, but there was this big ditch in between the bus parking lot and the rest of the world, and it got to filling up….

[…] improve one’s mood. And when it does rain, it’s thrilling because it is so rare! Snow? Get out the camera to document it, because it’s only happened twice (in Tucson) since I moved out here 8 years […]
