My Pregnancy Announcements

by Megan

I’ve always wanted to announce my pregnancy to my husband in an awesome way. I mean, it’s such a unique thing; I’m always going to know first, and it is only going to happen a few times ever!

With Carter, I knew for over 24 hours before telling him (or anyone else, except our cat…), because I wanted to tell him in the temple. It was December 21st, and the temple was crowded with lots of people there to see the Christmas lights, and we didn’t find parking soon enough to make the very last session of the day! I had to alter my plan quickly, so I took him to the spot where he proposed to me (on the temple grounds), and I told him that I had gotten him a Christmas present (after we agreed we weren’t going to exchange that year), but that it was “on back order until August…so NINE MONTHS back order.”

Mesa Temple Christmas Lights

That night we took an overnight flight to Maine, and I told my parents the next day, with the same wording. My dad didn’t get it at first, and he was mad that some company was going to take 9 months to get them their present!

With Vanessa, we had just started trying (for a month or two), and I took a test at my parents’ house after realizing I was a day or two late. It was positive, and I told my parents and my sister (and Carter, who wasn’t really talking yet and wouldn’t spoil the surprise!). That night, at home, I put Carter to bed in a “big brother” shirt that I bought for him. In the morning, I made Daniel go get him.

Next thing I know, Daniel (half asleep) brings Carter into our bed, rolls over and falls back asleep! I couldn’t wait any longer, so I made him wake up and read his shirt! That woke him up!

With #3 I wanted to do something a little bit bigger! I’ve always wanted to involve my husband’s show choir in an announcement, so this time around I did.

I took a test on Halloween morning which was positive (and surprised me, even though we had been trying for about 4-5 months), but it was after his choir class, so again I waited 24 hours, and the next morning I rushed out with the kids to get a “big sister” shirt for Vanessa. Then I coordinated with one of his students (thank you, Valley Vista High School, for allowing students to use cell phones in school!) to let us in during class, and we came in with Vanessa holding a few stuffed animals, hiding her shirt.

Daniel wasn’t too surprised to see us, because we had visited before. The kids were in a giant semi circle, which was just perfect. I told the whole group, “We just wanted to visit to say hi, and to show you Vanessa’s new shirt.”

Then I showed her shirt to the kids before showing it to Daniel. It was just the reaction I was looking for! Some of the girls gasped, and there were lots of awws and oh-my-goshs. Then I showed Daniel her shirt, and he got all excited. At that point, I lifted my sweater to show him my white t-shirt that said “07/11” on it (due date).

It was so fun to include the choir in my announcement, and they loved it! Daniel said, “Well, you guys knew before I did, so I guess that makes you family!” This is his first year at a new school, so we aren’t old hat just yet; they still like us!

Well, those were my pregnancy announcements. If things go according to plan, I’ll get to have one more. How should I announce #4?!

This is precious! For the next what what about doing something themed toward the time of year it is? Or I’ve seen those onsies that are striped like a jail bird that says I’ve waited nine months to break out and give that to him…. ;)

That’s so cute! I didn’t do anything special for the first, because I was WAY too excited and frankly, I can’t keep a secret. But maybe with our second I’ll think of something cute like you did! Congrats on #3!

Those are cute! I have heard some very fun and clever ways people announce it to their husband. I think the best one I heard was the women had set up a crib in the spare room, and when her husband got home she said in a stern voice, “Go look what your dog did in the spare room”. Just getting home from work was not excited about looking at a mess- but then got a great surprise! I always loved that one, but maybe because I typically say the same thing to my huband any way.
