Leave the laundry. Put your Pinterest projects away. Seriously, put. down. the. glue gun. Mommy needs a break.
What do you do once the kids are asleep? Blog? Prepare for the next morning? The dishes? Cry from relief? Drink? All good answers.
Moms do too much. It’s just a fact. We do it out of love, but still, Mom needs a little time to herself, or even better, some time with friends! Last night I left my two oldest with my husband and packed up the baby to go over to my mom’s house for a fun-filled night of Phase 10, popcorn, and NickMom.
My sister was visiting and staying the night, so we had the three of us representing all stages of “motherhood.” My sister is 23, unmarried, with no children (a.k.a. free and if she keeps hanging out around my rowdy bunch, she’ll stay that way), me, drowning in Weebles and tiny mismatched sneakers, and my mom, raised-three-kids-but-now-loves-to-spoil-the-grandkids-then-send-them-home-a.k.a.-also-free).
I was informally throwing an Instant Mom watching party, and at first my party-throwing-loving brain thought of bunting streamers and mustaches on toothpicks and chocolate fondue. Then I remembered that the point of the whole thing was to relax, so instead I just stole everything from my mom’s house. Okay, so I was going to pick up pizza, but she had all the fixings for sandwiches, so that’s what we had.
We brought out the fine china for this event, along with some gourmet selections:
And of course we dressed in our finest attire:
We ate, and then we lounged on the couch to watch Instant Mom.
Did you know that Nick Jr. turns into NickMom after hours? It’s true. Dora and those trippy Yo Gabba Gabba things go to bed along with your kids (Pinky Dinky Doo goes back to Pinky Dinky Hell), and the programming turns to focus on Mom. See, you don’t even have to get up off the couch and change the channel.
Instant Mom airs new episodes on Sundays at 10pm ET (check your local listings- it was on at 7pm in AZ!), but it is also on every night during NickMom programming. It stars Tia Mowry-Hardrict, one of the twins from “Sister, Sister,” which was one of my favorite shows when I was younger! My favorite part about the show is the two little boys who play her stepsons. They are totally adorable and great young actors!
Do you ever find yourself just crapped out on the couch after finally getting all the kids to bed, and all you want is to watch a little TV before you find the energy to toddle down the hall to your bed? Well NickMom’s aim is to fill that space with a little light, upbeat comedy. So you can laugh at someone else’s parenting woes, instead of your own!
So goodnight Moms, I’m off to toddle down the hall to my own bed. Just remember, when life seems rough, nothing can cure it faster than a good laugh!

I have to check out this show. I didn’t realize they had mom programming at night. That’s really cool. I also love your choices for dinner, yum!
I agree! Laughter is the best medicine. As mamas we HAVE to laugh things off at times. Well I do anyway to keep my sanity :) Sounds like a fun night!
Sounds like a good way to unwind! What a great idea for a show!

There is seriously nothing as amazing as getting out of your own house and away from the kids for a little get together. At least the baby can’t really talk back yet, or kick you in the face because he doesn’t want to go to sleep, or dump his poop in the sink. Yeah. My life right there. I’m glad you got to spend some QT with your mom and sister, looks like you guys had a good time! Now send sandwiches! #client
