Make Money, Money!

by Megan

You love to blog. You spend hours designing and organizing your sidebar until it’s just right. You pour your heart and soul into the words you post on the world wide web. It’s more than a hobby but doesn’t feel like a job.

Wouldn’t it be great if the hours you lovingly put into your blog could put a little cash in your pocket? Well it can, and not at the expense of your blog’s purpose or integrity.

In the past five years that I’ve been blogging, I only started to make money in the past year or two. But now that I know what I know, I want to share it with other bloggers. I’ve spent hours researching ways to make money with a blog, focusing on what I call “Brand 2 Blogger” companies (those companies who act as a liaison, pairing brands who need advertisement with relevant bloggers who are willing to write about their product, service, or event).

I’m excited to announce that I have an e-book in the works that will provide bloggers with all the information they need about these companies. I will tell you who they are, how to join or hear about opportunities, their practices and the selection process for campaigns, and how you can write and get paid.

Today I’m going to give you a free excerpt from the book, so you can see what will be included. Now go make money, money, make money, money, money!

Company: Linqia

URL: www.linqia.com

How to sign-up:
Bloggers can sign up for Linqia by filling out a short-and-sweet survey. Just click “apply now” on the Linqia homepage.

*NOTE: Linqia refers to blogs and sites as “communities.”

How to get campaigns:
Linqia does not publicly post their campaigns. They will email you directly if your community has been chosen to participate in a campaign. You can accept the campaign by replying through email, at which point you will be assigned a “campaign manager” (Linqia employee) who will assist you throughout the campaign.

How the campaigns work:
Once chosen for a campaign, your campaign manager will email you with your “campaign budget.” Your budget is the maximum amount of money you can earn from that campaign. Linqia campaigns are pay-per-click, so you will also get a click rate, which is how much you are paid each time someone clicks on your custom URL.

Linqia assigns you an estimation of how many clicks they expect you to get, and that is your maximum, or “budget.” Let’s say your click rate is $0.80 per click, and your campaign budget is $80, or 100 clicks.  So if you get 100 clicks over the course of the campaign (usually about 2 weeks), then you will make $80. If you don’t reach your budget, you still get paid $0.80 per click. So if you got 50 clicks, you would make $40. If you exceed your maximum, you don’t get paid for the extra clicks (you would still get $80), but the next time you are offered a campaign, you would be given a higher budget.

Interface/Website:
Linqia’s website has a fantastic interface for use during your campaigns. They show a snapshot of your campaign progress- your clicks, budget, earnings, and days left in the campaign. Under the “campaign content” tab is all the information you need for the campaign, all in one place. It includes information, sample tweets and Facebook posts, disclaimers to use, photos, and of course your custom link (which you need to share to get clicks and earn money).

Under the “activity stream,” you can interact with the other communities who are taking part in the campaign, as well as your campaign manager and the brand themselves. You can ask questions and link to your blog post about the campaign.

With most campaigns there is a requirement that you must share your link within the first few days of the campaign, and sometimes blog posts are required by a certain date as well. All campaign requirements are made known up front, so you can decide if you can commit to everything you will be expected to do.

Getting Paid:
Linqia pays through PayPal, within 72 hours after the end of the campaign.

Referrals:
Linqia does have a referral program. Under your “referrals” tab, you will have a custom URL that you can share with other bloggers and website owners, so that they can join Linqia. You earn $5 for each community you refer that is accepted, and you will also earn 15% commission on their first campaign, after it is completed.

Overall:
I enjoy working with Linqia because they are extremely well-organized and very accessible. The campaigns pay well, but you have to be willing to work extra hard, since you are trying to get clicks and not just posting one blog post. Also, you never know when a campaign is coming from Linqia, since they do not post their opportunities for everyone to see and apply for, but nevertheless they have been one of my most reliable sources of income in the past year.

So what do you think? Will you sign up for Linqia? Will you want a copy of my e-book? What’s your best advice for making money on your blog?
