Love Is Thoughtful

Welcome to Day Four of the Blogger Love Dare, where 40 bloggers are sharing our thoughts on marriage, love, and taking The Love Dare! Today’s theme is “Love is Thoughtful.”

Day Four- Love Is Thoughtful

I love today’s dare:

Contact your spouse sometime during the business of the day. Have no agenda other than asking how he or she is doing and if there is anything you could do for them.

Since discovering Google Hangouts (which most people associate with video, but also includes instant messaging), my husband and I have all but abandoned texting. With the Chrome extension, I can message Daniel and respond to his messages whether I’m out and about or sitting at my computer.

So it was not a difficult task for me to complete today’s dare. I just messaged him to see how his day was going, and whether or not I could do something for him.

The first part of the dare we do every day. We are in constant contact and always checking in with each other. It was the offering to do something for him that was a little rare, and he appreciated it.

I think it’s so easy to get caught up in our own projects and to forget that the person we are living with is not just a roommate but our spouse who we promised to love and care for.

Today’s dare is about the little things. Taking a moment to check in. Saying thank you. Doing a chore that isn’t yours. Sending a little message that says “I’m thinking about you.”

Some of the students we teach look up to our marriage and even use the hashtag “#relationshipgoals” when they think we’re cute. I always remind them that a good marriage requires hard work, and we are no different.

Love is thoughtful. Love is being thoughtful. Go out of your way today. Put your own needs aside for a little while today. See if your thoughtfulness comes back to you tenfold. I bet it will.

I LOVE GOOGLE HANGOUTS! My husband and I are the same. We always use it. I agree that the first part is easy for me. I just need to ask that amazing question. Is there anything I can help you with? I am going to do it right now!
