Lost Egypt at the Arizona Science Center

by Megan

School is out, and it’s time for some fun summer activities! The Arizona Science Center is one of Carter’s favorite places to visit, and we were provided the opportunity to visit their brand-new Lost Egypt exhibit, through a campaign with Blended Extended.

Not only does Carter love the Arizona Science Center, but he also loves Ancient Egypt, so check out how excited he was when I told him where we were going:

Lost Egypt is located in the Sybil B. Harrington Galleries on Level 3 of Arizona Science Center, and it will be there through September 1st, 2014. We got the chance to visit the exhibit before it had even opened to the public, and we were also treated to a special demonstration of how the Egyptians mummified their dead!

Then it was time to head upstairs and see Lost Egypt! Just inside the doors, we met Sarah the Camel!

Lost Egypt has so many interactive exhibits! We could have stayed there for a full day and been busy the whole time. They have 3D puzzles where you try to reassemble a broken jar, a place where you can try pulling a block like they did to build the pyramids, and so much more.

The ancient Egyptians were buried with physical possessions that they wished to have in the afterlife, so this was a magnetic board where you could choose what you would want to be buried with. Carter, of course, chose ice cream!

Carter and Riley had fun taking apart and rebuilding this wooden pyramid. If you go to the exhibit, look underneath the bottom layer of the pyramid for a cool surprise!

Carter is fascinated with Egypt, so this video (complete with pyrotechnics) kept him entertained, and he watched it the whole way through!

Then there was the thing that everyone wanted to see! Annie (short for “anonymous”) was a teenaged Egyptian girl who probably drowned in the river, and she was given the royal treatment in her mummification.

The exhibit explores both past and present Egypt, and it showcases the discoveries that are still being made today, as scientists use modern technology to uncover new information about the era of ancient Egypt.

Carter (and Harry and I) loved Lost Egypt, and we will definitely be returning to enjoy the exhibit again!
