For anyone who has an iPhone or an iPod Touch, I highly recommend the app, Lose It! Mallory showed it to me. It’s free, and it’s the easiest app I’ve found to record weight less, and caloric intake.
Each day you can record your weight, and there are buttons to add food and add exercise. It asks your current weight, your goal weight, and how much you would like to lose per week (.5, 1, 1.5, or 2 pounds), and then it gives you the net amount of calories you can intake each day. You can also adjust the amount they give you, which is great, because they gave me around 1000 calories a day, which is way too low, but since I’m nursing, I added 750 calories. I may not be burning quite that many calories a day nursing, but I’ve read in many places that nursing moms (and probably most people) shouldn’t eat fewer than 1800 calories per day.
As you input your information throughout the day (and it has a very good catalogue of food caloric values, including name brands, and the amount of calories burned by specific exercises), it updates the net amount of calories you have left. So if you work out, it will record that and add that to the amount of calories you can eat for that day. It’s also very easy to put in your own foods, and it keeps track of things you’ve eaten in the past, so it’s really easy to input things you eat regularly.
I highly recommend! …along with the iPhone, I highly recommend that as well!
