Welcome back to another installment of the A Look Back link-up! This month we are talking about our lives during the year of 1985. I hope to see everyone who linked up last time join us again, and of course lots of new faces! So help spread the word by tweeting, sharing on Facebook, grabbing our button, etc!
We have added in a “guest host” feature, where we randomly choose a blogger from those who link up to be a guest host for the following month! That blogger will get to include the linky in her post, and she will also have a link to her post for that year on the link-up’s main page.
This month’s guest host is Ashley from Flats To Flip Flops!
Onto the good stuff! 1985!
At the start of 1985, I was about 7 months old.
We still lived in Old Orchard Beach, Maine- me, my brother, and my mom and dad. My parents bought a house just steps from the beach, for $32k.
My dad worked full-time, and my mom went back to her teaching job for the school year of ’84-’85, after having the whole summer to spend with me when I was a newborn (which is what Daniel and I are shooting for at the end of the present school year!).
I spent most weekdays at my Gramma’s house, while my mom taught. My brother went with me too, although he went to nursery school a few mornings each week.
I don’t have many memories, if any, from 1985, but I remember later years at my Gramma’s house, when we would take walks up to my mom’s school to visit her classroom, and I remember eating grilled cheese sandwiches!
In May, I had my first birthday! My parents threw a cookout birthday party for me and invited all our relatives.
One of my presents was a Care Bear (“Bear-Bear”), which was a favorite for years to come!
We visited Story Land in New Hampshire again!
And of course there were lots of trips to the beach!
Survey:
Age: 7 months- 1.5 years
Where you lived: Old Orchard Beach, Maine
Favorite activities/pastimes: According to my baby book, I loved to “dance” by standing and swaying and swinging my arms, and I loved eating new, exotic foods such as juice, toast, and crackers.
Vacations taken: Story Land in NH, and lots of trips to the beach!
Best friend(s): The summer of 1985, my mom met another mom on the beach who had a little girl who was my age, named Ani. We became friends and met every summer on the beach after that!
Favorite book: I’m thinking Pat the Bunny and Goodnight Moon. I don’t remember, but I know we always had the classics!
Favorite tv show: Probably Care Bears and Sesame Street
Favorite place to be: Home with my family!
Favorite outfit/Fashion trends: Swimsuits and oversized snowsuits, not at the same time.
Did you have any “firsts” this year? My first word, “baby,” at about a year, my first teeth at 8 months, first steps around 11.5 months, my first birthday in May, and my first haircut in September!
What did you do for your birthday or a special holiday? I had my first birthday on May 23rd, 1985! My parents threw a cook-out party for me and invited lots of our relatives. I got beach toys, a see-n-say, and my Care Bear.
