Last July I began a journey to go without sugar for one full year. This July, we packed up our minivan and drove our family across the country for an epic trip to Maine. The trip is the main reason I started my year-long no-sugar journey when I did- so that I would be able to eat my favorite sugary treats while vacationing in my hometown!
It just so happened that we had a family get-together on the same day when my no-sugar year ended, so I brought along the ultimate treat-yo-self dessert, the new Klondike Kandy Ice Cream Bars!
Our cookout (that’s New England for BBQ), came after a full day of hardcore vacationing! That morning, we had taken the kids to the beach.
Mother’s Beach in Kennebunk has a playground, so it’s a popular spot for the little ones! Vanessa and I did some swinging while the boys played on the little merry-go-round (Harry-go-round)!
Sand castles were built, crabs were found, and once we were sufficiently beached out, we packed up, changed in the car, and headed for a local seafood restaurant, the Cape Pier Chowder House in Cape Porpoise.
The kids had fun seeing the lobster traps and learning about how lobsters are caught. The adults enjoyed the food!
Then it was time for some shopping in downtown Kennebunkport, where I worked summers in high school. Gotta bring back some Maine souvenirs in case it’s another three years until we make it back here again!
Before we knew it, time had flown by, and it was time for the cookout! We got to spend time with some of my family members, who we only get to see every few years.
It was great catching up and just relaxing. Oh, and indulging in some desserts!
The Klondike Kandy Ice Cream Bars were the perfect treat after a busy day of vacation!
We tried out the Fudge Krunch and Cookies & Cream varieties, and everyone had a favorite.
Aunt Mal opted for the Cookies & Cream…
While Cousin Mike enjoyed the Fudge Krunch!
I gave both a try and, though I enjoyed both, Cookies & Cream was definitely my favorite!
Not a bad way to end my year of no sugar, and a great way to relax with family after a fun-filled day!
Psst, if you have a second (or 6), check out Klondike’s Vine channel. They have some really cute and funny videos! You can also stop by their YouTube channel for some longer videos, or visit the Klondike website, to see the variety of delicious treats they offer!
I hope your last few days of summer are fun and relaxing, and if you need a treat to get you through, you know where to look!
