Four is Fantastic!

by Megan

This little guy is four today!

Four years ago, my husband and I rushed to the hospital (an hour away) with me screaming the whole way, like a scene out of a movie. Once that lovely epidural was placed, we relaxed all morning, watching Sarah Palin’s VP acceptance speech on TV. By mid-afternoon, we were parents!

Four years later, this little guy continues to bring us joy every day!

Carter, you are a super smart, super sweet little man. You are a great big brother, so gentle and loving toward your sister (most of the time). You continually amaze us with your intelligence and wit. You love to play with cars and trains, making up stories and pretending to do toy reviews. You are curious about everything, especially traffic signals, and you love to be silly.

Here are some of Carter’s latest gems:

Carter: This is my little cousin.
Me: Who?
Carter: (pointing to Vanessa) This guy.

Me: Carter, what do you want for breakfast on your birthday?
Carter: Cake and ice cream.
Me: What do you want for lunch on your birthday?
Carter: Cake and ice cream.
Me: What do you want for dinner on your birthday?
Carter: Cake and ice cream.
Me: What else do you want to do on your birthday?
Carter: Drink and eat.

Me: Guess who is coming to see us tomorrow?
Carter: Where?
Me: WHO is coming to see us tomorrow?
Carter: What?
Me: GUESS WHO is coming to see us tomorrow?!
Carter: (thinks hard) When? Why?

(Carter found a “behind-the-scenes” video on Cars, which showed Larry the Cable Guy doing Mater’s voice. Daniel thought it might ruin the magic for Carter.)
Daniel: What are you watching?
Carter: This guy talking, he’s a big fan of Mater.

Me: You’re being such a good boy, Carter. That’s just what I needed.
Carter: Well then I’ll just keep on being a good boy!

Carter: Hey Mom.
Me: Yeah?
Carter: Wacky waving inflatable arm-flailing tube man.

Carter on Gumby: This is a wacky waving inflatable arm-flailing tube man show!

Me: Carter, let’s sing a song.
Carter: No.
Me: (sad voice) Okay.
Carter: That’s a good girl.

Carter: I love you, Mom, and you’re cute. And I know that you’re pretty. And that’s all I know about you.

Carter: All this food is making me watchy, so can I please watch some Super Why?

Carter: I have a stomachache in my foot.

Carter: Let’s sing the ABCs together. You sing the lowercase letters, and I’ll sing the uppercase letters.

Love you, Carter! Happy birthday!
