Family Date Night at Denny’s

by Megan

I was invited to visit Denny’s for a dinner on-the-house, and this is my unbiased review.

Last week, Daniel and I loaded up the kids and drove to Denny’s to enjoy a relaxing family dinner. It had been a long week, and it was only Thursday! We definitely needed to sit for awhile and let someone else do the cooking.

I was pleasantly surprised to find a classy-looking, clean dining room, which had recently been redone with flat screen TVs, playing a children’s movie. I recently ate at another breakfast/restaurant chain in town, and found the water-stained ceilings and torn booths a turn-off. Not the case at Denny’s!

The chain, known for being “America’s Diner,” has recently focused their efforts on the family, and most locations offer “kids eat free” night on Tuesdays. In Arizona, kids eat free on Tuesdays AND Thursdays (two free kids’ meals with the purchase of one adult entree).

I think he was pretending he didn’t have a nose in an attempt to get Vanessa to smile.

Denny’s was a fantastic place to take the kids. The menu is huge and definitely has something for everyone (and if you’re me, that’s the buffalo chicken sandwich)! I have always loved places that serve breakfast all day, and the french toast is always at the top of my list.

But let’s talk about the kids’ menu. Grilled cheese, chicken nuggets, pizza, mac & cheese, cheeseburger, spaghetti, pancakes. And the sides? Fruit, vegetables, yogurt, mashed potatoes, salad, fries, apple slices, and goldfish! How about the drinks? Apple juice, milk, soft drinks, lemonade, orange juice, cranberry juice, smoothies.

Is your little one as picky as 99% of children are? Well now you know where to go to make them happy!

And, oh yeah, did I mention they EAT FOR FREE?!

Denny’s menu is also healthy-eater-friendly, with a little graphic that marks their healthier choices. I ordered an avocado chicken sandwich, while Daniel opted for a double cheeseburger. I wish I had taken a picture…it was massive!

Both Carter and Vanessa ordered the kids’ pizza, and Carter got goldfish on the side, while Vanessa demolished a bowl of grapes. Harrison…watched.

Despite a couple little snafus (lettuce on my sandwich which I didn’t want and my husband getting onion rings instead of the fries he ordered- though he had no complaints and the onion rings did look very good), the staff was extremely kind and friendly. They clearly care about their customers, and our server (thanks, Brook) made sure that both kids left with their desired-color of balloon in hand.

If it’s been a long day, take your family to Denny’s and enjoy a relaxing, affordable dinner (or breakfast) with an almost endless variety of food options. Tell them I sent you!

Wow, my Denny’s doesn’t have any TVs! That sounds like an awesome idea.
