If you follow me at all on social media, you probably saw that we surprised our two oldest kiddos with a trip to Disneyland this week! Daniel and I have been planning this trip for a few months now. We knew we wanted to take just the older kids so that we could have some 1 on 1 (and 2 on 2) time with them, so we dropped Harrison off with my parents for a few days. The four of us had an absolute blast!
I will be doing a full trip report, but today I just wanted to share the video of how we surprised the kids. Well mostly just Carter. I may have mentioned the trip to Vanessa a few different times over the past few weeks, because I was dying for them to know, and I knew she would forget or not really understand when it was all happening.
On Wednesday, Carter and Daniel went to school, and I packed! Vanessa saw me packing her Anna dress and guessed we were going to Disneyland, but I still didn’t tell her for sure.
In the afternoon, my mom came to get Harrison, I loaded up the car, and Vanessa and I went to pick up Daniel first, then Carter.
Just the day before, my mom picked Carter up from school on a day when she normally doesn’t, and he went on about how much he loved surprises. So on Wednesday I packed him a donut Lunchable for his snack at school, with a post-it note on it that said, “Surprise!” He’s been begging me for one of those.
So when we picked him up, I asked how he liked his surprise, to distract him from realizing that we had another surprise up our sleeves.
Let’s go to the tape:
Surprising Carter was so much fun, and then we had the whole trip to look forward to. We spent Thursday at California Adventure and Friday at Disneyland, and both days we went strong from open to close! Look for a full trip report later this week.
Have you ever surprised your kids? How did you do it?
