Disney Social Media Moms On-The-Road

by Megan

It’s already been a month since I had the lovely opportunity to attend the Disney Social Media Moms On-The-Road event in Phoenix. Right after the event, I was busy packing and then we left on our cross country adventure! But I didn’t want to let it go by without a little recap, so here goes!

I carpooled from Surprise with some of my blogging besties, Steph and Nicole. I always feel better arriving to blog events with some friends, but as soon as we got there, we met up with lots of other lovely ladies who I knew.

Kate, my go-to girl!

We registered and got a great swag bag, which I still have not unpacked! However I saw a puzzle in there which I’m itching to get my hands on, as well as lots of other goodies!

The conference room was done up in Disney style, and we were welcomed with a delicious breakfast.

Mickey rice krispy treat at 8am? Don’t mind if I do!

After we had some time to mingle, visit the sponsor tables, and take photo booth photos, it was time to hear some speakers. Now I don’t usually have job envy, but that was before I met Erin Glover, Social Media Director for the Disneyland Resort. This girl may just have the. coolest. job.

Erin let us in on some of the happenings at the Disneyland Resort, as well as giving us some concrete advice on blogging and social media. One of the things she mentioned was that you’ll find your best material at the intersection of need and inspiration.

We took a break to do some pin trading, but I mostly traded business cards, because I was pretty happy with this Maleficent pin I was given! I also got a Tinkerbell pin earlier in the day, so I had a pin for both kids when I got home!

My favorite speaker from the day was definitely Tracey Clark, one of the Disney Sisters (am I the only one who hadn’t heard about them before the conference?!), who spoke about mobile photography. This talk was one I needed to hear! I know that photography is a weak point for me, and regardless of the fact that I wouldn’t know what to do with a nice camera if I had one, I don’t want to lug around a huge camera all of the time. I’m all about efficiency, and if I can do it with my phone, I will!

Tracey gave some solid tips and boosted my confidence. She proclaimed, “you’re all photographers!”

I had been eyeing that Hulk mask all day, and finally my dreams became reality.

There were some fabulous giveaways going on throughout the day, and several of my tablemates got lucky enough to win. I had mentioned to them that I was dying to win the purple suitcase I had seen, and I was completely over the moon when they called MY NAME!

I was so thrilled! I was leaving on my trip five days later, and our current luggage set (wedding gift from almost 9 years ago) is getting old and worn! Winning this gorgeous suitcase from American Tourister totally made my day.

One final surprise awaited us at the end of the day. We got to meet THE Grumpy Cat!

She recently starred in a Disneyland promo video with, who else, Grumpy the dwarf!

After a fun day of Disney magic, I returned home and presented my kids with the two pins I had received. They were very pleased!

It was a great experience to attend the Phoenix Disney Social Media Moms On-The-Road event, and I was honored to be invited. It was a small taste of what I hope to experience some day at the main Disney Social Media Moms conference! “When you wish upon a star…!”
