Welcome to the 1990s!
In 1990, I finished up Kindergarten and started 1st grade. I had my 6th birthday. I still lived in Maine, spent my summers on the beach, and loved to sing and dance. 1990 was also the year my sister was born, and our family was complete!
Let’s look at some photos.
My Kindergarten class did a skit to a song about Noah’s Ark (“There were green alligators, and long-necked geese…”), and I got to play the leading role! My mom likes to say that I beat up the other kids to get to be the unicorn, but I remember it very clearly. One of my friends had the unicorn costume from a previous Halloween, but it didn’t fit her, so the teacher told her to pick someone to try it on. It didn’t fit the girl she picked, and that girl picked me to try it on! It fit me (shorty), so I got to be the big star! I remember standing on a red X, and once all the other animals were in the boat, there was a second red X that was just for me, to move over to. Poor unicorn, didn’t make it onto the ark!
This plastic yellow radio/tape player I got for Christmas in 1990. I used that thing for years! I would put in a blank tape and sit with my finger on the red record button, just waiting and hoping for Thunder 107 to play 500 Miles by The Proclaimers. It was a long time before I finally got a radio with TWO cassette docks (a girl can dream).
And this thing was the prize of my collection! I remember many hours of singing and choreographing around that microphone! I kind of want one now.
And can you see those big waffle blocks hiding under the blanket in the bottom left corner? I’ll have a better picture of them when we get to 1991, but those were awesome. And guess what? My kids are getting those for Christmas this year!
So that was the beginning of the 90s for me. A decade that would take me from 5 to 15. From a kid to a teenager. From Kindergarten to high school. You get the idea.
What about you?

Ahhhhh, 1990. The good old days, yes?
I turned 8 in the summer of 1990. That year, the first day of school was on my birthday. My best friend was Samantha Jackson. I lived on 16th street. I loved playing Barbies with my little sister.
Life was good, and pure, and innocent.
Thanks for the flashback!
Actually, my sweet, adorable grandkids are getting TWO sets of those big Waffle Blocks because I’m their Gramma and I can do things like that if I want to! :)
You were so cute!! And those yellow tape players were all the rage! I totally think the 90s were 10 years ago… How sad is that?
I still think that 90 was 10 years ago too! That’s so funny that you were a unicorn in a Noah’s ark play! I used to sit and wait to record my favorite songs from the radio-something kids these days will never understand! The first 3 people to link up this week are all named MEGAN! I just randomly noticed that and thought it was worth mentioning. :)
I feel old… LOL! I turned 11 in 1990. I was at an age where I wouldn’t even talk to a 8 or 6 year old!
It’s amazing that you kept all these old photos! :)
