My Skin Care Routine

by Megan

Hi kids! Welcome back to another installment of my “30 Before 30” series!

Today I’m writing about #8, developing a skin care routine that works for me!

I have never been very good at keeping a skin care routine going. First of all, I am very lucky to have been blessed with clear skin that has never needed too much attention (although this is important for everyone!), and second, there is so much information out there that it was hard to figure out what would be best for me.

I think I’ve got it figured out. That being said, I would LOVE to hear any comments or opinions, because I am certainly not an expert on this subject! And while we are clearing that up, let me also state that I have not received any compensation for mentioning specific products; I bought the products I’m reviewing, and these opinions are my own.

So, although I don’t have problem skin, let’s face it, I am getting older, and I wanted to figure out a routine that was a) QUICK and b) INEXPENSIVE. I did a lot of research online and, let me tell you, it’s hard to sift through what is accurate information and what is an attempt to sell products. I took the information that I found and purchased the products I thought would be best for me.

Here is the routine:

Morning:
*splash of warm water on my face
*Eucerin Everyday Protection face lotion with SPF 30 (about $8)

In Shower:
*Caress Daily Silk body wash, although I switch it up (about $4)
*Olay Total Effects scrub cleanser (about $8)

Nighttime:
*Pond’s Cold Cream (about $5)
*Almay eye makeup remover liquid, if necessary (about $5)

I read that in the morning you don’t need to use a cleanser; a splash of warm water on your face is enough. Then, the Eucerin face lotion moisturizes your skin as well as adding sun protection (a must-have everywhere, but especially here in Arizona!). This works for me as a morning routine because it is really quick!

In the shower, I like Caress Daily Silk body wash, because it smells amazing. It reminds me of my grandmother’s bathroom, which had little soaps and bath pearls everywhere. I like to use a moisturizing body wash, because I just know that I won’t take the time to moisturize separately. I do have Jergens Natural Glow daily moisturizer/firming lotion/self-tanner, but I hardly ever take the time to use it.

When I am washing my hair (usually every other shower), I use the Olay Total Effects scrub cleanser on my face and neck. You only need to exfoliate once or twice a week, so I do it when my hair is already going to be wet. After using this scrub, my face felt so smooth for the rest of the day!

I also occasionally use Neutrogena Sugar Scrub body exfoliator.

For a nighttime routine, this is what I gathered from my research: I could either use a cleanser, toner, and moisturizer, or cold cream. Hmm…three separate products or only one?! The other major reason I was sold on the cold cream was because it doesn’t require water! You just rub it on and then use a tissue or washcloth to wipe your face afterward. This was HUGE for me, because I hate to get my hair wet if I’m not washing it, and I hate how the water runs down your forearms, etc!

So, before bed, I use the Pond’s cold cream, which also smells amazing! The cold cream is supposed to even take off eye makeup, but I’m more comfortable using the Almay eye makeup remover liquid and a cotton ball to take off eyeliner and mascara.

And that’s it! Most days the only products I have to use on my face are the morning moisturizer and the nighttime cold cream. It’s quick, cheap, easy, and so far my skin is feeling great. I will report back if I notice any major changes, good or bad! But for now, #8 is complete!

I would love to know your thoughts and/or favorite products! Comment below!

I have used Oil of Olay for a long time and at 67 everyone says I have very good skin – I applaud your efforts to have a good skincare routine that works for you

I’ve never gotten fancy with a “skin care regime”. I just wash my face in the shower and use a moisturizer. I get compliments all the time on my complexion. Moisturizer is usually vitamin e oil or olive oil. I also make my own “fluffy” moisturizer for the winter. I never really needed much more than that, guess I am just a simpleton.

I try to do the same things though I use heavier moisturizers as I have dry skin and have started using more all natural/organic products on my skin. I love a relatively new company/product that I found on Facebook, called Live Love Dew. Their products are amazing and priced so that I can afford them. Congrats on marking another one off your list!

Thanks for this advice and sharing how you take care of your skin. You really have it down, and I will pass this on to someone who wants to start taking care of their skin, who doesn’t already

My grandmother used Ponds cream and at 82 everyone said her skin was soft as a baby. I use the Olay products and I am happy with them.

I just read an article where they recommend using baking soda as a scrub, i bought some last night, i’ll be giving it a try. I use organic coconut oil as my moisturizer. A little goes a long way. I take my make up off with Neutrogena facial wipes, because I don’t like the wet water mess either. Vicki
