30 Before 30: #11

by Megan

One of my goals for this month was to cross two more things off my 30 Before 30 list. Hmm, I made a goal to complete some goals… Anyway, here is the first one!

#11. get into a routine of drinking lots of water every day

Simple solution to this one: drink ONLY water! Truth. I have been drinking only water since May 24th. That’s almost 7 weeks, and I plan to continue.

I am super addicted to soda (Coca Cola, I love you and hate you), and if I have one, I will have several, so in order to reach my weight loss goals, I had to cut it out completely. And if I’m not allowing myself to drink soda, I will OD on sugary juice. So that had to go too.

I have never liked drinking water, but now that it’s the only thing I’m drinking, I drink lots! I have a water bottle that I love (enough to write an ode to it), and a fridge that supplies crushed ice and cold water.

I never used to like crushed ice, until I was pregnant with Vanessa and very low in iron. It was the highlight of my day when Carter took a nap, and I would pour myself a tall glass of Coke with crushed ice and watch Lost. I’m not as obsessed with it as I used to be (crushed ice, not Lost, though that’s true too), but I still enjoy lots of crushed ice in my water bottle!

Whereas before I would just drink soda all the time, I have to remember to drink my water. Otherwise, I get dehydrated, and I can feel that happening very clearly now. As soon as I start to feel weird or anxious, I usually realize that I’m just thirsty, so I fill up my water bottle and enjoy the icy water. I always feel better right away!

I know I will not drink only water forever, but hopefully when I do add some juice and soda back into my diet, I will continue to drink plenty of water every day!

I salute you because I have not been able to do this no matter how I try. I LOVE my Coke and sometimes after a long day I need a tall glass (and some chocolate)!

I NEED to do this!!! I think I am dehydrated most of the time—because I hardly drink liquids and I tell myself everyday to drink more water:) Maybe next week??? When’s your 30th—mine is coming up this fall, EEK!

Wow, so that’s the secret! Hmmm, I have tried to lose weight and do the water thing, but then I start thinking well one isn’t bad… then that turns into another and then another, then I’m off my diet and two weeks of trying hard are down the drain. I did the same thing to cut out soda. I had to cut it out entirely. I am happy to say that it has been 10 years since it has been a main staple of my day. Now, I can have one here and there for a treat and not worry about falling back into the addiction. Good for you!

water sure is a HUGE key I still battle it, I HATE pop though so I am lucky in that regard for me it is coffee/tea and water. Can’t seem to drop my coffee though!

That’s awesome Megan! I’m so glad for you. I need to follow suit and cut coke and juice out of my diet. =(

Hi, coming over via the Monday Mingle bloghop! I also have this issue of not having enough water and then feeling dehydrated at the end of the day. Seriously, I should have an alarm ringing every hour to remind me!
